The Sound and the Fury
Hi
I am reading William Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury and finding it very difficult. I love Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath but this is in a very different writing style. There is a lot of stream of consciousness in the first couple of sections which I thought I'd handle ok having done A300 20th century lit - but I've really struggled. There are four parts with different narrators and the third one is much clearer so I will persevere. The characters are all pretty unlikeable. Would hesitate to recommend this to anyone unless they're a real fan of modernist experimental writing. I'll let you know if I change my mind...
